The Japanese pianist was presented with the medal after performance at the hall on 2 June

Mitsuko Uchida has been award the Wigmore Medal in recognition of her outstanding contribution to classical music and to Wigmore Hall.

The news was announced via Wigmore Hall's Facebook page.

 

The medal was presented to her by His Royal Highness The Duke of Kent following her Schubert Recital on 2 June. Uchida performed Schubert's 4 Impromptus D899 and 4 Impromptus D935. You can re-watch the performance here.

The 72-year-old appeared on the cover of issue 104 of Pianist in 2018.
