The Pianist Composing Competition is back for a 7th edition!

Over the past six years, we've uncovered an incredible array of music from talented composers all over the world. This year we're eager to discover even more amazing music.

If you think you’ve got a knack for composing solo piano music, this might be your chance to make your mark… while also winning yourself a brand-new piano from our friends at Kawai and getting your score published inside the pages of Pianist.

  • Winning score recorded concert pianist Chenyin Li and distributed on Spotify

Rules and Regulations

We are on the lookout for unknown talents who are passionate about composing, and who love to tell a story through their compositions. Here are the rules:

  • Make sure your composition is written for solo piano
  • Your piece can be in any style you like, and for any technical level
  • The length should not exceed 64 bars
  • There are no restrictions of age, nationality or profession
  • Professional composers will be automatically disqualified. This competition is for amateur composers only
  • Should you win, and if you reside outside of the UK, you will be required to pay for the shipping fees of your chosen piano
  • Entry costs £40, with a discounted rate of £35 for Pianist print subscribers and Prime members
  • Your piece must be submitted as a written score in any of these formats (pdf, jpg, gif, png, doc, docx, zip) via the upload box at the top of this page by the closing date of Monday 9 December 23:59 GMT
