That indefatigable arranger of his son-in-law’s music, Franz Liszt naturally adapted the noble melody of the Pilgrim’s Chorus – but for organ. It was left to the Frankfurt-born Arnoldo Sartorio – a prolific salon composer – to bring it to the piano as part of a 1921 collection of 20 LH pieces which bears further investigation, featuring original numbers such as ‘Lonesome Hours’ and ‘Heart’s Wishes’ as well as arrangements of Mozart and Gluck.
