A note from the composer: This piece is inspired by EF Benson’s Mapp and Lucia novels, with the title taken from Benson’s (and Lucia’s) swanky London house. I have tried to capture the calm of England between the wars, while writing something that Lucia, a ‘gifted amateur’ pianist, would enjoy playing. I imagine her seated at the piano, dazzling her friends with arpeggios and roulades that sound much more difficult than they really are.
