To mark the monumental anniversary of the Walt Disney Company, Steinway & Sons has designed a Mickey Mouse Limited Edition Grand
Steinway has teamed up with Disney to create 25 Mickey Mouse Limited Edition grand pianos to celebrate Disney's 100th anniversary.
Showcasing the evolution, innovation and artistry of the past century, the collaboration unites the two historic companies together for the first time and invites audiences around the world to discover the power of music and Disney.
The Design
The piano design combines Steinway's unrivalled artistry with Disney's whimsical charm. Each of the 25 pianos are hand painted, and includes artworks of Mickey Mouse which have been created by acclaimed Italian artist Elena Salmistraro. The finished piece comes complete with a high-polished white bench.
Salmistraro says, “The piano’s white background represents the sketch board that Mickey Mouse was originally created on years ago. While rich and colourful tones give energy to his iconic characteristics."
Noticeably, the black notes of the keyboard are not black; they are gradient blue. It makes for a show-stopping look as the accidental keys transform from light blue in the low register to dark blue in the higher register.
The grand features Steinway’s signature SPIRIO | r technology, a high-resolution player piano capable of live performance capture and high-resolution recording and playback. The bespoke piano’s music library will be continually updated.
The collaboration was unveiled to the world on ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars.” Revealed as part of “Disney100 Night” and introduced by host Alfonso Ribeiro, composer, producer, pianist and Steinway Artist Chloe Flower joined the 11 remaining couples in studio to showcase the exquisite instrument as participants danced to songs from beloved soundtracks from Disney’s most cherished films.
