The Scottish International Piano Competition (SIPC) is thrilled to announce that the renowned Scottish pianist, Steven Osborne OBE, has enthusiastically accepted their invitation to become Patron. This exciting appointment coincides with the SIPC’s preparations for its 40th anniversary edition in 2026.
Steven Osborne reflected on his personal connection to the competition: "As a child, I watched the very first Scottish International Piano Competition with rapt attention. Over the years, I've observed how well-run it is and how well cared for the candidates are, so it is a great pleasure, almost 40 years after my first encounter with it, to become the competition's Patron."
Professor Aaron Shorr, Artistic Director of the SIPC, shared his excitement about Steven’s appointment: "We are immensely proud to welcome Steven Osborne as Patron, as we approach our celebratory 40th anniversary edition since the competition's inception in 1986. As one of Scotland's most revered classical musicians, Steven brings an exceptional artistic legacy. We are excited to collaborate with him in shaping and enhancing the artistic vision that has earned the competition such high regard throughout the world."

His insight and invaluable influence promise to further elevate the competition’s efforts in supporting and showcasing outstanding musicians at the start of their careers. With notable past laureates including pianists such as Sergei Babayan, Pavel Kolesnikov, and Tom Poster, the competition remains a vital force in the development of emerging talent.
