Sarper Duman has become somewhat of an Instagram sensation after posting a series of videos of his cats reacting adorably to his playing

A cat really is a pianist’s best friend.

That certainly is the case for Turkish piano teacher and player Sarper Duman.

Sarper owns 19 cats, all of which are rescues. (Sarper, you are a hero!)

He regularly posts videos online of himself playing the piano whilst one of his cats sits on his lap.

Their reactions to his playing is a must-watch:

Why is it that some cats love piano music so much?

A cat’s senses are much more fine-tuned than ours. Its whiskers are sensitive to even the smallest of vibrations, which explains why some cats love certain music and other cats hate certain music.

Play at the right tone, pitch and tempo to suit a cat’s senses and you may just find your cat snuggling up to you as you play.

Check out issue 109 of Pianist, in which we focus on famous pianists and their furry friends.

All 19 of Sarper’s rescue cats have illnesses or were wounded at the time he took them in. One of his cats has been diagnosed with diabetes, which understandably costs a lot of money to treat.

He has set up a Patreon page, asking for donations towards the costs of caring for 19 rescue cats. You can find out more here.

Sarper, keep doing what you are doing!

In the meantime, let's look at some more adorable videos of Sarper and his cats...
