2021 Leeds International Piano Competition winner is the star of the brand-new Feb/Mar issue of Pianist

The Kazakhstani talks exclusively inside about about life after the big win and the challenge of taking on Liszt’s mighty Transcendentals.

Beisembayev won the competition with a rapturous performance of Rachmaninov's Rhapsody on a Theme of
Paganini
, and the composer is featured throughout our new issue to celebrate the 150th anniversary of his birth.

Elsewhere, there are masterclasses on how to get the best out of the thumb and how to prep for a performance, as well as step by step lessons on works by Mozart, Farrenc and Rachmaninov. There are also 40+ pages of scores to get stuck in to, including works by Casella, Beach, Joplin and others.

Russian sensation Alex Malofeev features in our New on the Scene column as well delve into why this young pianist has all the makings of a future Russian-school legend.

We also talk to two pianists blind from birth and find out how we can all benefit from listening as intently as they do.

Enjoy!
