From Einaudi in the Arctic Ocean, to Lang Lang in the Swiss Alps

99 times out of 100, the venue for a piano concert will likely be a local performance hall.

But on the odd (VERY odd) occasion, you might be treated to a concert over 3,000 metres high... or maybe even a concert in the middle of the ocean.

These four pianists all decided to take that plunge in an attempt to create something magical, oftentimes for a good cause as well. Let's take a closer look.

Ludovico Einaudi

Location: Arctic Ocean

Complete with a grand piano on a floating platform, Einaudi performed his original composition, 'Elegy for the Arctic', in the Arctic Ocean to raise money for Greenpeace. At the time of filming (2016), the charity was urging the OSPAR Commission not to miss the opportunity to protect international Arctic waters.

What a mesmerising view.

Einaudi appeared on the cover of Pianist 113.

Lang Lang

Location: Jungfraujoch, Switzerland

Earlier this year, Lang Lang gave a sky-high performance on the Jungfraujoch, a saddle between two peaks of the Bernese Alps in Switzerland, near Europe's highest rail station. The piano was an incredible 3,454 metres high!

Lang Lang appeared on the cover of Pianist 117.

Dotan Negrin

Location: Santa Monica Mountains

Pianist Dotan Negrin is known for popping up in all corners of this world with his piano, playing in some spectacular places along the way.

He doesn't disappoint here. Playing his original piece, 'Clarity', Negrin performs with spectacular backdrop of the Santa Monica Mountains.

Evelina De Lain

Location: Singela Pass, Himalayas

This particular performance secured the record for the World’s Highest Classical Music Concert! De Lain and a team of people brought the grand piano up to 5,000m where she performed a number of classical songs for 90 minutes.
